The capital city of Northern Territory is Darwin, which is one of Australia's most modern and multicultural cities. The early history of Darwin begin with the Aboriginal people of the Larakia language group in the 15th-16th century. The first European person to spot Darwin was Lieutenant John Lort Sokes of HMS Beagle in the 18th century.
Some of the heritage buildings that are still standing in Darwin city are: Government House from 1870, Chris Church Cathedral from 1902, Lyons Cottage built in 1925 which was once housed staff of the British Australian Telegraph Company, Oil storage tunnels which was built after the Japanese bombing between 1942-43.
